Jakartans Spend An Average Of 22 Days Per Year In Traffic, Study Reveals

The study was conducted between July and August 2017, involving 7,000 respondents, aged 18 to 65 in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Manila, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh and Bangkok.

Last week, Uber released a study on traffic congestion in Asia, revealing that the average Jakartan spends 22 days per year sitting in traffic.

“The average car owner in Jakarta spends 68 minutes stuck in traffic and 21 minutes looking for a park every day – the equivalent of 22 days per year,” said John Colombo, Head of Public Policy and Government Affairs at Uber Indonesia in Central Jakarta, Wednesday afternoon, according to Kompas.

The number is not too dissimilar to the results of other cities in Asia, where the overall average is 52 minutes in traffic and 26 minutes finding a park – 19 days per year. The study found that 74 percent of Jakartans reported missed important events, such as wedding parties, appointments with doctors, job interviews and funerals, due to the difficulty of finding a park.

Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno, who attended the release of the study’s results, condemned the results. He expected ride-sharing apps would help decrease traffic congestion in the city.
