Lion Air Flight JT-610 With 189 Passengers Crashes 13 Minutes After Jakarta Take-Off

A Lion Air Boeing 737 flight from Jakarta to Pangkal Pinang came down 13 minutes after take-off.

The plane, with a capacity of 210 seats, has only been used by the Indonesian airline since August. debris was first spotted by a tugboat at 7.15 am.

There are no reports of surviving passengers at this time.

“The Lion Air plane lost contact with air traffic controllers at 6.33am. Flight JT-610 took off from the Jakarta airport at 6.20am local time and lost contact at 6.33am. The Boeing 737 was originally scheduled to arrive at Pangkal Pinang at 7.20am.”

The plane involved was a Boeing Co 737 Max-8 model, released in 2016. The specific aircraft used by Lion Air is believed to be just two months old, and a significantly updated version over older 737 models.

The last major accident in Indonesia was in December 2014 when AirAsia Indonesia’s Airbus A320 aircraft crashed into the waters en route to Singapore to Surabaya. 162 people were on board.

The last Lion Air air flight to crash was Flight 209 to Bali, 13th April 2013.

Pilot error was cited in the report as the cause of the crash when the plane fell short of the runway. All 108 passengers and crew survived.

Many questions remain unanswered as this story develops.
