“Unreported World” Investigates Citarum – Indonesia’s Dirtiest River

The Citarum river is synonymous with the word “pollution”.

Spanning 300km from the mountains of southern Java to the Java Sea, the river provides irrigation and drinking water for more than 25 million people, including residents of Jakarta. It is also a dumping ground for toxic waste produced by the 2,000 industrial facilities, including 200 textile mills and garment factories that run along the Citarum river valley. The full extent of the situation needs to be seen to be believed.
