When people think road trip, they think of Route 66. That long, epic journey that has been the inspiration of movies, books and songs. Well, what if we said there was a road here in Indonesia that might just get you filling up your gas and hitting the open road…
Launched back in 2017, the Bawen-Salatiga toll road is just one stretch of President Jokowi’s plans for a Trans Java Toll Road, planned to be completed by 2019 . When it’s done, the whole route will be 1167km, stretching from Merak, West Java, to Banyuwangi, East Java. Yes, whilst that’s only a third of Route 66 (3,945km!) , no doubt it will be quite a journey in itself.
However, one road that connects the towns of Bawen and Salatiga, a 17km stretch that’s part of the Semarang-Solo highway, has been made famous for its incredible scenery, calling people to enjoy the Javanese mountain range and epic valleys during their drive. Have a look for yourself:
