The residents along the Ciliwung river, in the flood-ridden Kampung Pulo, were relocated on Thursday 20th August after a Government order. The residents have been told to set up a new life in commissioned housing, in West Jatinegara.
Naturally, some did not take the forced eviction too kindly.
Here are some of the shocking images that were taken that day...
The Ciliwung River is infamously flood-prone
It's where many people have called home for generations
Though the new place doesn't look too shabby... no flood worries up there!
... But when home is where the heart is, some people won't give it up easily.
Even if it means suffering pain and humiliation
When the Indonesian police have a target, it usually gets done
And now Kampung Pulo is no more.
