Indonesian Illustrator Draws ‘Wayang Avengers’ and Presents to Avengers Actors

There’s nothing better than seeing skilled Indonesians get the fame or recognition that they deserve, and one Indonesian in particular got his alongside the Avengers.

Illustrator Is Yuniarto hails from Surabaya. He is no stranger to the comic book world, being a professional comic book artist and llustrator. He is best known for his works on comics ‘Wind Reader’ and ‘Garudayana’, which are both award winning comics. 

For comic book fans, what better experience is there than meeting the real life actors of the biggest super hero franchise in the world: The Avengers! 

In 2018, Is Yuniarto was invited by Disney Indonesia to give the Avengers cast a special Indonesian souvenir during a press tour for Infinity War in Singapore. He gave specially designed wayang kulit puppets made in the shape of Marvel characters.

Is handed a Doctor Strange wayang kulit to Benedict Cumberbatch, a Nebula wayang kulit to Karen Gillan and a specially drawn Avengers poster done in a wayang style to director Joe Russo. Is also made a special Iron Man wayang kulit. 

What an amazing way for Indonesian heritage to not only find its way into modern pop culture, but also receive such an amazing platform and recognition, especially from some of Hollywoods top actors. Well done Is Yuniarto!
